Increased tunnel safety with Everlux AL: An NFPA 502 compliant safety signage solution!

Accidents in tunnels often result in tragic consequences, particularly if the incident is fire related. Heat, smoke, and toxic gases can quickly cause chaos and panic, making it challenging for tunnel users to evacuate safely. Everlux AL addresses this issue by providing consistent, continuous safety information detailing the egress pathway, emergency exits, fire safety equipment, emergency telephones, and places of refuge.

Everlux AL signs are manufactured on a durable 2mm thick aluminum base to ensure high performance in extreme conditions. Each Everlux AL sign features a transparent protective film that offers protection against graffiti and, more importantly, resistance to tunnel atmospheric conditions such as humidity and moisture as well as silt, salt and smog.

Compliance with NFPA 502

Everlux AL safety signs comply with the NFPA 502 Standard for Road Tunnels, Bridges, and Other Limited Access Highways. This standard provides fire protection and fire life safety requirements for limited access highways, road tunnels, bridges, elevated highways, depressed highways, and roadways beneath air-right structures.

The NFPA 502 standard requires directional signs indicating the distance to the two nearest emergency exits on the side walls of road tunnels at intervals no more than 82 feet. Everlux AL signage meets this requirement, making it an ideal solution for improving safety in road tunnels.

Everlux AL demonstrates Everlux’s commitment to improving safety in confined environments. Everlux AL ensures that tunnel users have access to vital safety information, helping them evacuate safely and independently in the event of an incident, thereby contributing to a safer environment within these structures.

Installation of the Everlux Stair Nosing Egress Path Marking

The Everlux Stair Nosing Egress Path Marking is a critical component of the Everlux Egress Path Marking System. It plays a vital role in ensuring safe and efficient evacuation during emergencies by providing clear, visible markings along egress paths. The stair nosing is designed to be durable, reliable, and easy to install. There are three different methods of installing the Everlux Stair Nosing Egress Path Marking:

  • Self-Adhesive Backing

This is the easiest and fastest method. Simply peel off the self-adhesive strips and adhere it securely to any smooth surface. This method is ideal for quick installations and requires no additional tools or materials.

  • Everlux Adhesive

For a more durable and long-lasting bond, the Everlux Adhesive can be used. This specialized adhesive is designed to ensure a strong bond between the stair nosing and the surface to which it is applied. This method may require a bit more time and preparation, but it provides extra strength and durability, making it suitable for high-traffic areas.

  • Fasteners

This is a more traditional method of installation. The stair nosing can be fastened in to place for a secure fit. This method is ideal for surfaces where adhesives may not work as effectively, or for installations that require an extra level of security and durability.
Each of these methods has its own advantages and is suitable for different situations and requirements. Therefore, it's important to consider the specific needs and conditions of your installation before choosing the most appropriate method. Regardless of the method chosen, the Everlux Stair Nosing Egress Path Marking provides a reliable and effective solution for marking egress paths and ensuring safety in emergency situations.

If you have any further questions or need assistance in choosing the right installation method for your building, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
The Everlux team is always ready to provide guidance and support to ensure you get the most out of our products. Your safety is our priority.

Everlux: Improving Fire Safety in High-Rise Residential Buildings

As global urbanization accelerates, the need for effective fire safety measures in residential buildings, particularly in high-rise residential buildings, is more critical than ever.

In New York City, fire safety regulations for residential buildings include specific requirements for apartment and guest room identification and directional markings and signs, as outlined in 3 RCNY §505-01. Additionally, entrance door fire emergency markings in apartments, guest rooms, sleeping rooms, and stairwell doors are mandated under 3 RCNY §505-02. These rules apply to Group R-1 and R-2 buildings.

  • The Group R-1 Buildings are transient occupancies, which means they accommodate short-term stays, examples include boarding houses (transient), hotels (transient), and motels (transient).
  • The Group R-2 Buildings are primarily permanent occupancies, examples include apartment houses, boarding houses, convents, dormitories, fraternities and sororities, and hotels (non-transient).

3 RCNY §505-01, Apartment and Guest Room Identification and Directional Markings and Signs states

Stipulates the requirements for the design and placement of entrance door room number markings for dwelling units in all Group R-1 and Group R-2 buildings and occupancies, and lobby and hallway corridor directional signs.

The signs and markings required under this section are meant to assist emergency response personnel in locating the dwelling units they need to respond to.

3 RCNY §505-02 Apartment, Guest Room, and Stairwell Fire Emergency Markings

It mandates that all entrance doors to dwelling units and stairwells doors in Group-1 and Group-2 buildings or occupancies have specific markings to aid firefighters in locating such dwelling units, stairwells, and in identifying multi-floor dwelling units.

These markings should be affixed to the door jamb on the hinged side of the door, not more than 12 inches above the floor. For multi-floor dwelling units, additional markings with directional arrows are required.

Everlux Signage

Everlux offers a bespoke signage solution that meet the stringent requirements of the New York City Fire Department rules 3 RCNY §505-01 and 3 RCNY §505-02 ensuring that each sign is uniquely tailored to the building’s specific needs.
